Charity Iroakazi, 28, was charged by the police in Lagos on Thursday in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly possessing 36 berets with IPOB symbol on them.
The defendant, a woman artisan living at 14 Nurudeen Street in Ojo, Lagos, is being prosecuted for conspiracy and illegally possessing an Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) beret.
The crimes were conducted on June 16 at the Mosalasi Bus Stop in Satellite, Lagos, according to the prosecution, Insp. Samuel Mishozunnu.
According to Mishozunnu, a rider on a motorcycle carrying a large black nylon was stopped by police officers on patrol.
He claimed that the motorcyclist was carrying 36 berets in the colors of black, green, and red that were imprinted with the IPOB symbol.
As reported by the prosecutor, the rider directed authorities to the sender’s address, which resulted in the defendant’s detention.
According to the prosecutor, the offenses were under the 2015 Lagos State Criminal Law.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
