“Landlady Arrested for Pouring Hot Water on Tenant”

In a shocking incident that unfolded in Enugwu-Ukwu, Anambra State, a landlady named Amaka Okonkwo finds herself in custody at Nimo police station. The reason? An intense dispute with her tenant, Imabong William, over a contentious rent increase that took a dangerous turn.

Late on a Thursday evening, emotions flared as hot water infused with fiery pepper came into play. Imabong William, hailing from Akwa Ibom State, had faced pressure to leave her rented dwelling due to her inability to meet the new rental rate. Her lease had lapsed back in July, adding fuel to the fire.

The confrontation erupted while Imabong was engrossed in washing her clothes. The scalding concoction was unceremoniously thrown at her from behind, leaving her injured. The brave victim is now undergoing treatment at Zion Hospital, Nawfia.

Community figures, such as Chiegbunam Nwosu and Florence Okoye, took a stance against this reprehensible act. The collective voice of Enugwu-Ukwu rose in condemnation, stressing that the community stands firmly against such behavior.

A delegation of women, including the Woman President-General of the community, visited Nimo Police Division. Their persistence paid off as the Divisional Police Officer assured them that the case would be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough inquiry. This commitment to justice aims to restore peace and harmony to the community.

During interrogations, Ebere Okonkwo, the husband of the accused landlady, was cooperative but disclaimed any involvement in the incident. Though present at the time, he expressed ignorance about his wife’s unsettling intentions toward their tenant.

Reacting to the alarming episode, Ify Obinabo, the Women and Social Welfare Commissioner, hastened to the hospital where the victim was recovering. She commended the swift intervention by the Enugwu-Ukwu women and assured that justice would be pursued rigorously. Commissioner Obinabo cautioned that the state government views assaults seriously and will not tolerate any such behavior. She urged the public to promptly report crimes through proper channels to ensure swift action.

In a twist of rental fate, a seemingly mundane dispute has ignited a much bigger blaze, demanding justice and unity within the community’s heart.
