In the early hours of Sunday, a driver who has not yet been identified attempted to elude capture for a traffic offense in the Costain region of the state by stabbing an employee of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Olajide Ojukoya.
This was said in a statement provided to the media on Sunday by Adebayo Taofeek, the traffic regulator’s public relations officer.
The statement claims that the driver who was stopped for breaking traffic laws stabbed Ojukoya to get away from the police.
The statement continued, “Operations of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority today arrested a driver of a painted Volkswagen ‘T4’ commercial bus (LSR 966 YE) for stabbing a Lastma officer after being apprehended for serious traffic obstruction around Costain round-about, Lagos.”
He added that, following repeated warnings from the state government to commercial bus and private automobile drivers to utilize designated bus stops before picking up or dropping off passengers or friends around the state, enforcement activities were conducted at the Costain roundabout inward toward Iponrin.
“Before pulling a knife and stabbing me, the motorist had been captured by our enforcement squad after making erratic driving efforts to flee.
Ojukoya said that the man “decided to strip himself naked after seeing the deep cut he had inflicted with the knife and caused serious commotions before he was finally arrested by policemen from the Iponri police station.”
The PRO said, “After his arrest, security authorities found hazardous weapons—a cutlass and knife—inside his commercial Volkswagen ‘T4’ bus.
To serve as a deterrent to future rebellious drivers, the administration confirmed that the arrested driver would be punished right away.
