The Director-General of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Dr. Chinyere Almona, has voiced criticism against President Bola Tinubu for urging Nigerians to remain patient while politicians continue to live lavishly. In an interview with Arise TV, she emphasized that the current administration is out of touch with the hardships faced by manufacturers and citizens, highlighting the stark contrast between the political class and those driving economic growth.
Dr. Almona pointed out that Nigeria offers many business opportunities, but entrepreneurs, especially the youth, are unable to seize them due to corruption, inflation, high interest rates, and restrictive government policies. She stressed that regulations often stifle business development rather than promote it, resulting in companies leaving Nigeria and worsening the unemployment crisis. Almona called for reforms that create a business-friendly environment to unlock the country’s potential.
She also expressed skepticism about the 30-day National Youth Conference announced by the President, stating that unless concrete policies are enacted to ease doing business, such conferences will have little impact. Almona reiterated that the core issue lies in leadership, calling for urgent actions to support the private sector and address the economic struggles faced by ordinary Nigerians.
