Barcelona’s former captain, Lionel Messi, recently delivered a heartfelt message to the club’s fans, hinting at a potential return in some capacity.
Widely regarded as the greatest player in Barcelona‘s history, Messi’s departure in 2021 was bittersweet, driven by the club’s financial struggles that made renewing his contract impossible.

Following an unplanned exit, he joined PSG, where his two year stint ended on a less-than-ideal note. A once anticipated return to Barcelona once again fell through due to financial constraints.

Now 37 and nearing the end of his playing career, Messi acknowledges that a return as a professional player is highly unlikely. However, he plans on contributing to Barcelona in other meaningful ways.

In an interview with Spanish outlet Mindo Deportivo, Messi shared his enduring love for the club and expressed hope for a reunion.
“My message to Barça fans? I miss you a lot. I hope we can meet again soon,” Messi said. “I hope you feel proud of being part of the best club in the world.”

Currently under a contract with Inter Miami, Messi is focused on his commitments there. While a short-term return to Camp Nou for a farewell match remains a possibility, it’s more likely he could transition into a sporting director role, a position he has previously shown interest in.

Alternatively, he may simply return to Barcelona as a devoted supporter, enjoying games from the executive box while settling back in the city he and his family have always called home.
