Liverpool’s Jota Faces Lengthy Absence

Liverpool’s forward, Diogo Jota, is poised to undergo an extended absence due to a knee injury.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that forward Diogo Jota will be sidelined for “months” due to a knee injury sustained during the match against Brentford. Jota had to be taken off on a stretcher shortly before half-time following an incident involving Brentford’s Christian Norgaard.

Klopp expressed his concern about Jota’s injury, stating that the recovery process would be extensive. “With Diogo it will obviously take months,” said Klopp. Reports from Portugal suggest that Jota could be out for approximately two months but are hopeful that he will return before the conclusion of the season and in time for Euro 2024.

In response to the setback, Jota expressed his determination to return swiftly through a social media post. The absence of Jota, who recently won the January player of the month award, is a blow for Liverpool, particularly as they prepare for the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea.

In addition to Jota, Liverpool also faced injury concerns with midfielder Curtis Jones and striker Darwin Nunez from the Brentford game. Furthermore, goalkeeper Alisson Becker missed the match due to an issue he picked up during training.

Klopp provided updates on the injured players, indicating that Jones has a bone ligament injury and Alisson is dealing with a muscle issue. However, he couldn’t specify a timeline for their return.

With several key players sidelined, including Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Thiago Alcantara, Klopp acknowledged the challenges ahead but remained optimistic about their recovery progress.

“It’s not great, definitely not,” added Klopp. “I’d like to say no issues but obviously we have some. So, not available, Alisson, that’s a muscle injury where we don’t know exactly how long it takes but definitely not in the foreseeable time coming back. The others we will deal with it day-by-day with muscle things. Trent and Dom are on the way back but not in team training yet.”
