Millions of naira’s worth of goods, including many bags of maize and locally processed rice, were taken on Friday from a warehouse in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba state.
At night, a big group of youths attacked the nearby 6Army Brigade warehouse.
The former head of the Sardauna local government region and a former state assembly member own the warehouse.
When the young people began to congregate at around 11.50 p.m., the Army and police were informed, according to a guard at the warehouse who requested anonymity.
He claimed that the young people had already entered the warehouse before the security personnel showed up.
The guard continued by saying that when the security guards arrived, they opened fire to scatter the looters, injuring two people in the process.
Hundreds of sacks of locally processed rice and maize, as well as agricultural inputs including pesticide and fertilizer, were carried away.
Similar looting occurred at other establishments in the neighborhood by the youngsters.
When EndSARS broke out in 2020, the same warehouse was raided, and items worth millions of naira were carted away.
When asked about the most recent incident, Taraba command Police Public Relations Officer SP Usman Abdullahi stated that he was attempting to obtain details about the incident and would provide an update once they were obtained.
