“LP Calls on APC to Apologize to Nigerians for Poor Governance”

The Obi-Datti Campaign Organisation has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to apologize to Nigerians for their perceived mismanagement of governance since coming to power. The Director General of the organization, Balogun Osuntokun, criticized the President Bola Tinubu-led administration for what he described as 76 days of “gross darkness.”

Osuntokun highlighted that within over 60 days in office, the government had implemented unplanned and ill-thought-out policies that resulted in a significant increase in the prices of goods and services, a decline in the national savings rate, erosion of disposable incomes, increasing poverty, and heightened insecurity.

He criticized the administration’s lack of clear and effective policies and strategies for good governance and its failure to mitigate the potential negative consequences of decisions such as subsidy removal and currency unification. Osuntokun emphasized that such mistakes could not be rectified through mere promises without concrete plans.

Osuntokun contrasted this with the campaign promises of the Labour Party and its candidate, Peter Obi, who had advocated for the gradual removal of subsidies with a comprehensive plan in place. He also accused the current APC leaders of thwarting efforts to remove the subsidy in the past, contributing to Nigeria’s economic challenges.

Osuntokun concluded by suggesting that the APC government should apologize to Nigerians, particularly to former President Goodluck Jonathan and his economic team, for the alleged failures. He called for a clear strategy to manage their policies and to investigate and prosecute those involved in alleged corruption related to the subsidy regime and oil theft.
