“LP Candidate Tells Umahi: You Can’t Replace Yourself in Ebonyi South”

The Labour Party senatorial candidate for Ebonyi South Zone, Linus Okorie, has criticized the Minister of Works, David Umahi, for claiming the right to choose his successor in the Senate. Umahi, a former senator who now serves as the Minister of Works, made this statement during a courtesy visit to the Ebonyi State Governor.

In response, Okorie expressed his concerns about Umahi’s “malignant desperation” and emphasized that Umahi lacks the authority to dictate the replacement for the Ebonyi South Senatorial seat. Okorie also mentioned that his party, the Labour Party, is appealing the tribunal’s decision that dismissed their petitions, so there are no plans for fresh elections unless the court of appeal decides otherwise.

He further criticized Umahi for prioritizing politics over his responsibilities as Minister of Works, where the nation expects him to focus on delivering quality roads. Okorie called on the people of Ebonyi South to ignore Umahi’s actions and focus on what is best for the zone, particularly if a rerun of the senatorial election is ordered by the court of appeal.
