The call for an external audit of the party’s finances made by Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate, has received support from the chairs of the Labour Party (LP) in each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Allegations have been made against Julius Abure, the national head of the party.
The chairmen, led by Abia State’s Ceekay Igara, the chairman of the Council of State Chairmen of LP, declared that they would not acknowledge Abure’s alleged financial crime.
Following a meeting at the party’s national secretariat on Tuesday, this was disclosed.
According to the media, Abure is accused of mismanaging the party’s N3.5 billion in funds.
The party’s 2023 presidential contender, Mr. Peter Obi, sought an audit firm with a good reputation look into the party’s finances and records, even though Abure refuted the accusations.
“We applaud Obi’s decision to bring in an outside auditor, and we think the results will clear Abure and expose the falsehoods being promoted by the suspended treasurer,” Igara stated.
He also denied rumors that Obi’s suspension was something the party was thinking of doing.
He is still in charge of the party and will stay so in our declared mission to free this country from the shackles imposed by the current administration.
Igara declared, “What you are seeing right now is staged and will end very soon.”
