Samsom Ibiloma, who was impersonating Dr. Kingsley Emu, the Secretary to the State Government, and other high-ranking government officials, was taken into custody by the Delta State Police Command.
This was revealed in a statement made in Asaba on Tuesday by DSP Bright Edafe, the public relations officer for the state police.
“The Command swung into action and arrested one Samsom Ibiloma, a member of the syndicate who specialises in impersonating top government officials,” he said, following a series of complaints from multiple victims about a suspected fraudster posing as the Secretary to the State Government of Delta State.
“This syndicate has been defrauding gullible victims seeking jobs worth millions of naira while operating under the alias of Hon. Kingsley Emu, the Secretary to the Delta State Government.”The command’s DECOY Squad members were detailed by Delta State Police Commissioner CP Wale Abass, who also gave the order to ensure a thorough probe into the situation.
“After gathering intelligence, the Commander, CP-DECOY, ASP Julius Robinson, stormed Walter Odili Area by Enerhen Junction in Warri and arrested 52-year-old Samsom Ibiloma, a resident of Dekina LGA in Kogi State.”
According to Edafe, the suspect admitted to pretending to be a well-known and powerful government official.
He went on to say that he had already conned his victims out of more than N10 million.
The PPRO reports that the suspects also admitted that Stephen Odeemero, whom they claimed was the mastermind of the crime, is the boss of the syndicate.
He claimed that more gang members who were on the run were being sought out and arrested.
Residents who were duped by their fraudulent behavior are invited to approach the PPRO’s office or command headquarters, according to the Commissioner of Police.
