Victor Chinedu, 28, was given a three-year prison term by an Ikeja magistrates’ court on Tuesday for hitting his mother and ruining N1 million worth of her belongings.
The defendant was found guilty of assault, property damage, and endangering life. He was unemployed and living with his mother on Guinness Street in Agege, Lagos.
The sentence, according to the magistrate, Mrs. Folasade Hughes, was hard labor without the possibility of a fine.
Mrs. Hughes also mandated that the inmate undergo a psychiatric assessment.
Earlier, Insp Samuel Mishozunnu, the prosecution, had informed the court that Chinedu had committed the crimes on June 22 after a dispute with his mother, Madam Abigail Samuel.
According to him, his mother’s television, gas stove, fan, refrigerator, and cell phone were all damaged by the offender, who also allegedly battered his mother and caused multiple injuries to her face.
He said that the offenses were against Sections 56, 173, and 350 of the Lagos State Criminal Law from 2015.
