Segun Olowookere, an Osun State resident previously sentenced to death for stealing chicken and eggs, has met with Governor Ademola Adeleke following his release from prison. This encounter occurred shortly after Olowookere was among 53 convicts pardoned by Adeleke on December 26.
A video circulating online captured the emotional moment when Olowookere and his mother knelt before the governor to express their gratitude. Olowookere’s story drew widespread attention after a viral interview revealed claims of wrongful arrest and extortion by local police officers in 2010, leading to his conviction and death sentence.
Governor Adeleke, who also recently signed a ₦427 billion budget for 2025 into law, reiterated his commitment to justice and governance reforms. The budget, titled the “Budget of Growth and Sustainable Development,” aims to drive progress across the state in the coming year.
