Man remanded by Ekiti court for robbery and attempted murder

Ojo Alofe, 28, was placed on detention on Friday by a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, for an alleged robbery and attempted murder.

According to the charge, the defendant was “reasonably suspected to have committed the offence of robbery of a sum of N190,000 and attempt to murder 68-year-old David Omoleye, punishable under Sections 312 and 241 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021,” around 10 am on August 22, 2023, at the Ijero Ekiti Magisterial District.

In his testimony to the police, the victim, a welder, claimed: “The defendant came to my shop and started threatening to murder me that day. He started pounding me with a large iron that was intended for use, hitting my head, hands, legs, and other body parts. When I passed out, some kind individuals drove me to the General Hospital in Ijero, Ekiti.
Inspector Bankole Olasunkanmi, the police prosecutor, asked the court to postpone the case so that the Director of Public Prosecutions could provide legal counsel after receiving the original case file from his office.

According to the judge’s order, “I find reasonable cause to grant the prosecutor’s application to remand the defendant at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti for a period of 30 days pending the issuance of legal advice by the DPP, Ekiti State Ministry of Justice, Ado Ekiti.”

The magistrate postponed consideration of the case until November 8, 2023.
