Man Sets Dogs on Police in Bid to Evade Arrest

Damian Kelikume has been charged by the Lagos State Police Command with locking himself in his apartment at No. 42 Nnamdi Azikiwe Road, Railway compound Ebute-Metta, Lagos State, and attacking detectives who arrived to arrest him with his dogs.

The 35-year-old was charged on Monday with five counts of stealing, assault, causing bodily harm, attempting to elude arrest, and releasing dogs on investigators before Chief Magistrate A. O. Akinde of a Magistrates’ Court in Ebute Metta.

On October 9, 2023, at around 5.30 p.m., when investigators arrived at his home to make an arrest, Kelikume allegedly let loose the dogs on them.

The defendant and his accomplices are accused of attacking the victim by tearing his clothes and causing him physical pain, as well as of taking an iPhone 11 Pro-max and cash that belonged to one Peace Raphael.
The offenses violated Sections 280 and 170 and are punishable under Sections 411, 287, 172, 54, and 117 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of Nigeria (2015), according to the prosecution, ASP Katuka Jibo.
However, the defendant entered a not guilty plea to the accusations.
Idris Tunde, the defendant, was granted bail in the most lenient conditions, according to his attorney’s request to the court.

Following the defendant’s plea and the attorney’s request, the magistrate granted Kelikume bail in the amount of N500,000 with two sureties in the same amount.

She postponed the case to November 7, 2023, for mention.
