Manchester City secured a 2-1 victory against Brighton on Saturday, reclaiming their position at the top of the Premier League table. This win ended Liverpool’s brief stay at the top following their victory in the Merseyside derby.
City, who had suffered losses in their previous two league games, dominated the first half of the match at the Etihad Stadium. They took the lead in the seventh minute when Alvarez found the back of the net, with Jeremy Doku providing the assist.
Erling Haaland, who had experienced a brief goal drought, extended City’s lead with a powerful left-footed shot from just outside the area in the 19th minute.
Brighton managed to pull a goal back in the 73rd minute when Ansu Fati scored after Manuel Akanji had been sent off for City.
Despite late pressure from Brighton, Manchester City held on for the win, securing three valuable points and regaining the top spot in the Premier League.
