Former Paris Saint-Germain coach Thomas Tuchel has reportedly turned down the opportunity to coach Manchester United.
The former Chelsea manager, who recently parted ways with Bayern Munich after a lackluster season, has expressed his desire to take a break from football management. The 50 year old, led Bayern Munich to their first trophyless season since 2011/2012, which ultimately resulted in his dismissal.
Although Bayern initially intended to sack him during the season, nonetheless, he was allowed to complete the campaign. Reports also suggest that Bayern Munich attempted to retain him afterward, but Tuchel refused the offer.
According to The Sun, Tuchel has met with Sir Jim Ratcliffe several times in recent weeks, the latest meeting happened last week in Monaco. Tuchel was among the candidates linked to the Manchester United managerial position, with discussions about his potential appointment taking place.
Manchester United however, has not announced the departure of Erik ten Hag and is currently conducting a season review before making any public statements.
According to the BBC’s Simon Stone, Tuchel has withdrawn himself from consideration to become the next Manchester United coach. During his meeting with Ratcliffe in France, he conveyed his lack of interest in returning to coaching immediately, preferring to take a break from the football world instead.
