The Lagos State Police Command has initiated a manhunt for the individuals believed to be responsible for the killing of politician Samsondeen Ali in the Oworonshoki area of the state. The incident reportedly occurred at the Precious Seed Community on Saturday after an altercation between Ali and unidentified hoodlums suspected to be land grabbers.
According to sources, Ali, who had contested for the councillorship position in the area, was allegedly attacked while attempting to erect a fence behind his house to prevent illegal passage. The hoodlums, demanding money, confronted Ali, hitting him with planks during the dispute. Subsequently, they transported him to a medical center, and upon arrival at the General Hospital, Gbagada, he was pronounced dead.
It is suggested that the motive behind Ali’s killing might extend beyond the fence dispute. Bode Adebayo, a resident, indicated that Ali’s connection to a woman vocal against demolitions in Oworonshoki could have contributed to the incident.
A senior officer at the Oworonshoki Police Station confirmed that the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department on Monday. Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, acknowledged that the suspects had fled, stating, “The last update was that the suspects fled. The guys abandoned their vehicle and ran away.” He further confirmed the launch of a manhunt for the perpetrators.
