Kylian Mbappé’s Euro 2024 campaign faces uncertainty as medical experts suggest he may require surgery for a broken nose, potentially sidelining him for at least ten days.
Medical professionals have indicated that Kylian Mbappé could be out of action for at least ten days due to surgery for a broken nose, potentially extending his recovery period and jeopardizing his Euro 2024 participation.

Former French team doctor Fabrice Bryand told L’Equipe that the recovery period for the France captain would be a minimum of ten days, ruling him out of the group stage. On Monday night, Kylian was seen leaving the stadium in an ambulance and was taken to the University Hospital of Düsseldorf, where the break was confirmed.

The French Football Federation (FFF) stated, ” He has returned to the base camp of the French team. He will undergo treatment in the coming days, without undergoing surgery immediately.”
Following the collision, France intended to substitute Mbappé with Olivier Giroud, but play resumed before they could make the change. Mbappé re-entered the pitch without permission and sat down, picking up a yellow card before the substitution was finally made.

In the post-match press conference, Deschamps expressed frustration when asked about Mbappé. Deschamps confirmed Mbappé ‘didn’t get off lightly’ and said the number 10 was ‘not doing well’ after his nose was severely hit.

Deschamps said: ‘I don’t have the elements in my hands. He didn’t get off lightly. It is still to be seen. I cannot at this stage give the answer. He’s not doing well. He’s with the medical staff. His nose got badly hit that’s for sure. We need to check, but it seems quite complicated, which is really unfortunate for us tonight.’

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Mbappé addressed the incident on X, writing, ‘Any ideas for masks?’
Deschamps was asked if Mbappé could miss their next game against the Netherlands on Friday. “I’m not going to go into hypothesis but the French team with Kylian will always be stronger with him,” he said, “If the news doesn’t go along these lines then we will have to fight without him.”
