The Ogun State Government has opened the campgrounds of several churches, including the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), and the Deeper Christian Life Bible Ministry, to provide shelter for residents displaced by coastal floods in the state. The floods have been caused by rising sea levels, heavy rainfall, and the release of water from the Oyan Dam. Many residents have been forced to abandon their homes as the floods
continue to wreak havoc.
The state Commissioner of Environment, Mr. Oladimeji Oresanya, has advised affected residents to contact the state’s emergency response teams and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for assistance. The government has also called on residents to either evacuate or elevate their homes and roads to mitigate the impact of the flooding.
Notably, the government has secured the support of churches in the area, such as the RCCG and MFM, who have opened their hostels to provide temporary shelter for displaced residents. Relief materials are being provided by the state’s emergency management agency and NEMA to support those affected by the flooding.
In Lagos, the State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, assured residents along the Ogun-Osun river bank that the government is prepared to address any challenges resulting from the flow of runoff water from the upland into Lagos. He emphasized the importance of homeowners in flood-prone areas relocating to higher ground to ensure their safety.
These measures aim to provide support to residents affected by the coastal flooding crisis in the region and to minimize potential risks to their lives and properties.
