Global tech giant Microsoft has announced a $1 million (₦1.6 billion) investment to enhance AI skills among Nigerians over the next three years. The announcement was made during the ongoing Microsoft AI Tour in Lagos by Microsoft Nigeria & Ghana’s Country Manager, Ola Williams, alongside Lillian Barnard, President of Microsoft Africa.
Williams emphasized that the initiative aligns with Microsoft’s mission to empower individuals and organizations globally. She explained that the investment will provide Nigerians with skills to not only use AI but also build solutions and businesses around it, creating sustainable livelihoods.
The AI Skill Development Programme will support startups, businesses, and government officials. Barnard highlighted Microsoft’s dedication to Africa, noting the importance of upskilling as AI job opportunities increase. She reiterated Microsoft’s goal of positively impacting lives and the economy across Nigeria and the continent.
