A 13-year-old girl was freed after weeks of sex slavery at the hands of a supposed man of God known as Pastor Prosper.
WACOL, a non-governmental organisation, facilitated the rescue.
WACOL, in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Monday by its media officer, Egodi Igwe, stated that on September 28, 2023, it received a report of the abduction of a 13-year-old girl by one Prosper Ifedinuru, a pastor at Living Faith Tabernacle, also known as Winners Chapel, Umulokpa, Uzo-Uwani LGA in Enugu, Enugu State.
Igwe stated, “The case was reported to WACOL by the victim’s parents, who described the heinous crime and begged the rescue of their daughter.
“According to them, their daughter, Miss N (name withheld), was abducted by Prosper who came to their village as a Missionary”
According to allegations, Prosper disappeared with the youngster under the guise of taking her to a bank to open an account.
The parents were also described as telling WACOL that when the pastor took their daughter, he vanished and all attempts to locate him and the minor failed.
“Subsequently, it was revealed that the’mysterious preacher’ had converted the minor into a sex slave, whom he frequently assaulted and tormented.
“The WACOL team immediately contacted the Enugu State Police Command and began working with them to find the criminal and rescue the minor victim.
“During the investigation, the church officials denied the culprit, claiming he was no longer in their employ.
“They acknowledged that he had previously worked for them, but he was not given any backing to perpetrate such a horrific murder against an innocent child.
“After multiple police searches, Prosper was apprehended in a border town in Umuahia, Abia State.
Igwe voiced displeasure with the frequency of such incidents, saying, “It is simply intolerable. Girls deserve a safe environment in which to grow and excel.
“They should not have their childhood stolen from them by those who are supposed to safeguard them.
“Girls are not safe anywhere, including religious spaces.
“There is a need for perpetrators to be held accountable and for tools of the law to be activated to protect girls in all places,” the statement went on to say.
