Nollywood veteran Wale Ojo has expressed his belief that contemporary actors prioritize “fake acting” over authenticity. He emphasized that the naturalness that characterized the performances of veteran actors is missing in the current generation of Nollywood.
Speaking in a recent interview with Hip TV, the British-Nigerian actor highlighted his admiration for the storytelling and acting skills of actors from the past, such as Ramsey Noah, Rita Dominic, Pete Edochie, Omotola Jalade, and Genevieve Nnaji.
Ojo observed that while the industry has evolved, some actors nowadays tend to lean towards artificial acting rather than genuine expression, a trend less evident in Yoruba movies. He fondly recalled the performances of legendary Yoruba actors like Hubert Ogunde, Jide Kosoko, Baba Suwe, and Papilolo as embodying a more authentic approach to acting.
Ojo acknowledged the changes that have occurred in the industry, both positive and negative, and expressed a sentiment of nostalgia for the old Nollywood. He suggested that a harmonious blend of the old and new Nollywood styles could create a satisfying experience for the audience.
