Oba Omotooyosi Bayo Akinleye, the Olukosi of Ilukosi-Ijesa in Ogun State, has accused Labour Party’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, of introducing ethnic bigotry into Nigerian politics. He said the Obidient movement, led by Obi, played a major role in fueling ethnic sentiments during the 2023 elections.
The monarch shared his views on social media, warning Yorubas not to turn on one another due to political or ethnic differences. He specifically advised against discriminating against Yoruba people whose mothers may not be Yoruba or who hold different political views.
He emphasized that all Yorubas share the same heritage regardless of background. “Even if a Yoruba person’s mother is Japanese, it doesn’t make their blood any less Yoruba,” he said, urging unity and tolerance despite political disagreements.
