Monarch Evicted by Youths Amidst Community Tensions

In a recent development in Okuku Kingdom, Cross River State, HRH Chief Odaji Ipuole was forcibly evicted from his palace by local youths due to unresolved community disputes. The eviction took place yesterday following the youths’ peaceful protest, accusing the monarch of neglecting to address pressing issues affecting the community. Despite appeals for inclusive meetings, the monarch’s refusal prompted the closure of the palace until the issues are resolved.

The aggrieved youths expressed frustration over the chief’s perceived negligence, leading to chants and demands for action during the protest. Residents, including Pius Ireti, voiced disappointment over the lack of mediation despite repeated appeals. The Eastern Yala Traditional Rulers Council received a letter from the youths, urging the exclusion of chiefs from Okuku and Ogbaniko from future meetings until grievances are addressed. The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, confirmed an ongoing investigation into the matter.
