Monarch of Oyotunji Village Killed by Sister in South Carolina

Oba Adejuyigbe Adefunmi II, the monarch of Oyotunji African Village in Beaufort County, South Carolina, was fatally stabbed by his sister during a heated argument on Monday, July 29, 2024.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office reported the incident at 2:45 p.m. at the village on Bryant Lane. Adefunmi, 47, was taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The suspect, Akiba Kasale Meredith, 53, fled the scene but was soon apprehended. She has been charged with murder and is in custody at the Beaufort County Detention Center. The investigation is ongoing.

In a 2017 interview with Punch, Adefunmi mentioned that he had seven wives living in various locations, including Canada, Oyotunji, and Virginia.
