Monarch to Government: Don’t Interfere in Oba’s Selection Process

The Chairman of the Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers, Oba Ayorinde Ilori-Faboro, has issued a heartfelt appeal to kingmakers and individuals entrusted with the task of selecting new monarchs. His plea emphasizes the importance of adhering to established guidelines and resisting the allure of financial incentives.

Oba Ilori-Faboro, also known as the Olojudo of Ido Ekiti, underscores the significance of having the right heirs ascend to the throne for the advancement of communities. He calls upon governments to refrain from meddling in the traditional ruler selection process and instead operate impartially while overseeing the procedure.

In a conversation with findwhosabu , the Traditional Rulers’ Council chairman encourages those in contention for community leadership roles to seek resolution through legal means rather than resorting to unlawful actions.

He emphasizes that kingmakers should draw wisdom from history and uphold honesty while adhering to prescribed protocols. Every town, he mentions, possesses a predetermined method for selecting an oba (monarch), a method that has received government approval. Thus, during the selection of an oba, it is essential to adhere to this process.

Oba Ilori-Faboro emphasizes the necessity of proper voting procedures and consultations with Ifa oracle, emphasizing the importance of seeking advice from credible Ifa priests. He stresses that maintaining integrity in the process is crucial for a town’s progress, as manipulating the process with financial incentives only breeds dishonesty and detriment to the community.

For individuals dissatisfied with the selection process, Oba Ilori-Faboro encourages them to utilize legal avenues for seeking redress instead of resorting to violence or unlawful actions. Drawing from his own experience, he shares that his journey to the throne took nine years after the previous oba’s passing, which involved legal processes.

Furthermore, the Olojudo calls upon governments to fulfill their roles as impartial referees during the oba selection process. He emphasizes that having a governor with integrity and a commitment to fairness is vital for ensuring a smooth and just selection process. Political interference, he suggests, can lead to dissatisfaction and discord.

In essence, Oba Ayorinde Ilori-Faboro’s message emphasizes the importance of upholding tradition, integrity, and legality in the selection of traditional rulers, with the ultimate goal of fostering progress and unity within communities.
