Nigerian skit maker and actor Debo Adebayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has revealed that a police officer once threatened to kill him during his arrest in February 2021. His statement comes in response to the suspension of Wale Ajetunmobi, Senior Special Assistant on Print Media to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for a controversial post suggesting that arsonists involved in the #EndSARS protests were hunted and executed.
In a post on his social media, Mr Macaroni recounted the police officer’s threat, saying, “We could have wasted all of you here,” while accusing the government of failing to investigate such incidents. He also highlighted the lack of action against voter intimidation during the 2023 elections and criticized another media aide to the governor for promoting bigotry without consequence.
Macaroni expressed skepticism about the possibility of a genuine investigation into Ajetunmobi’s statement, referencing the lack of accountability from the Lagos State Government after the #EndSARS panel report. He concluded by condemning the rise of division and hatred fueled by political interests, calling it a shame on all involved.
