Detectives from Zone 2 Police Command, Lagos, have detained a 43-year-old Islamic cleric known as alfa, Alhaji Afeez Uthman Imolayo, for allegedly taking his friend’s wife, kids, over N105 million, and a number of landed properties in Lagos.
The suspect admitted that he had tricked his friend, Animashaun Oluwasegun, into changing the names on his children’s birth certificates and other legal documents to his own when he was paraded by Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) of Zone 2, Mohammed Ali, on Monday.
The suspect further acknowledged that he had collected N105m from Oluwasegun, and had forced him to alter his name on his American passport and social security number from his to his name, Imolayo.
“On July 17, 2023, Mr. Animashaun Oluwasegun, also known as Afeez Uthman, brought a petition of criminal conspiracy, compelling action by intimidation, obtaining by false pretense, threat to kill, suspected ritualist, stealing, criminal charms, and conduct to cause breach of peace against Alhaji Afeez Uthman Imole Ayo and Alhaja Mushirafat Kekelomo Salaam female, Saheed Ajay.
The anti-piracy unit was given the petition for a discreet investigation, according to the AIG. A team of operatives under the direction of SP Mariam Ogunmolasuyi sprang into action and detained five suspects in connection with the alleged crimes. A white Toyota Venza, an Ashuk Leyland bus, and various pieces of land were also recovered.
He said that the primary suspect, Alhaji Afeez Uthman Imolayo (43), identified himself as the founder of the Amaaniyat-UR-Rahman Global Congregation and an Islamic cleric.
“The suspect changed the complainant’s wife and children’s names to his personal name with the assistance of his wife, Alhaja Mushirafat Kikelomo Salaam, for extortion purposes,” the AIG stated. “The suspect abducted the petitioner’s wife and children for more than 10 years. Then, claiming divine guidance, he used all of the petitioner’s property for his own personal gain.
