NAFDAC Shuts Down 150 Shops Over ₦5 Billion Worth of Fake Goods

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down 150 shops at Eziukwu Market in Aba, Abia State, seizing counterfeit goods worth ₦5 billion. The operation, carried out on December 16 and 17, targeted producers of fake and expired products, including beverages, spirits, and food items.

NAFDAC Director General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, described the market as a hub for counterfeit goods. Dr. Martins Iluyomade, South-East Zone Director, expressed dismay at the persistent illegal activities, despite prior warnings and agreements from market leaders to cooperate.

Professor Adeyeye reiterated NAFDAC’s zero tolerance for such practices and emphasized the agency’s commitment to protecting public health and eradicating counterfeit goods from the market.
