Azeez Adeshina Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has made a commitment to return to Nigeria to cooperate with the ongoing police investigations into the death of Mohbad.
The singer posted an official statement on his Instagram account on September 26, 2023, addressing the allegations and rumors surrounding his involvement in Mohbad’s passing. Naira Marley clarified that he is not evading the authorities and intends to provide his account of events upon his return.
In his statement, he acknowledged the negative public perception he has faced since the singer’s death. Naira Marley emphasized that he was out of the country for over a week before Mohbad’s tragic passing.
The statement read in part, “I have been out of the country since the 31st of August 2023, and I’m here to return in light of the police investigation. I am making arrangements to return to the country to assist the investigation and give my version of events. I am fully cooperating with the police team and I certainly have no reason to be a fugitive when I have no hand in his death.”
Naira Marley expressed his commitment to uncovering the truth and clearing his name with the support of his legal team and provided evidence. He vehemently denied any involvement in Mohbad’s death.
He stated, “My lawyers are already in touch with the police and government agencies and will support you in every way necessary. Without a doubt, I will honor his memory, and I promise to do right by him and his family. I am dedicated to proving my innocence and cooperating with the authorities to clear my name with sufficient evidence.”
Naira Marley also refuted claims of mistreatment or harassment of Mohbad during his time with the record label or afterward. He asserted that he never authorized anyone to intimidate or harm the deceased while he was alive.
Mohbad was a former member of Naira Marley’s record label until September 2022. Following his untimely death on September 12, 2023, there were allegations linking Naira Marley, his associate Sammy Larry, and his label to the harassment and eventual demise of Mohbad. Naira Marley has now distanced himself from these claims.
