Controversial Nigerian singer, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has been taken into custody by the Lagos State Police Command in connection with the controversial death of his former record label signee, Ilerioluwa Aloba, alias Mohbad.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed Naira Marley’s detainment, stating, “Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley, has been taken into custody for interrogation and other investigation activities.”
In a tweet on Tuesday night, Naira Marley announced his return to Lagos to assist authorities with the ongoing investigation into Mohbad’s death. He expressed the importance of his involvement in the case, stating that he aims to contribute to uncovering the truth and ensuring that justice prevails.
MohBad, aged 27, passed away on September 12. The police had previously invited Naira Marley and controversial music promoter, Balongun Eletu (aka Sam Larry), for questioning regarding Mohbad’s demise. Sam Larry is now in police custody.
The police confirmed that pathologists have concluded the autopsy on Mohbad and are awaiting the results. This follows the exhumation of Mohbad’s body by a combined team of the Nigeria Police Force and health officials. Additionally, the nurse who reportedly administered an injection to the deceased singer before his death was arrested by the police.
A coroner’s inquest into Mohbad’s death commenced at the Lagos State Magistrate’s Court in Ikorodu last Friday. The investigation seeks to shed light on the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s passing and determine the cause of death.
