Napoli’s manager, Rudi Garcia, expressed his dissatisfaction with Victor Osimhen’s performance in the club’s recent defeat to Lazio over the weekend. The Serie A champions suffered their first loss of the season, falling 2-1 to Mauricio Sarri’s side at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
Osimhen, who had been in sensational form, failed to find the net in this match after scoring three goals in Napoli’s previous two league games. Garcia acknowledged Osimhen’s strong first-half performance but pointed out that the Nigerian striker didn’t meet the expected standard in the second half.
Garcia remarked, “He (Osimhen) also dropped off in the second half; in the first, he didn’t have any sensational opportunities. He is always a burden for the opposing defense and creates spaces for others. We had opportunities and ambitions, and we were aggressive. But in the second half, none of my players met the team’s standards,” as reported by Tutto Napoli.
Despite the setback, Osimhen is set to join the Nigerian national team for international duty this weekend. Napoli will resume Serie A action with a trip to Genoa after the international break, hoping to bounce back from their recent defeat.
