Nasarawa APC Urges PDP to Curb Inflammatory Statements

The Nasarawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rein in its members and prevent them from making statements that could potentially incite conflict in the state. This appeal came as PDP members celebrated the victory of their governorship candidate, David Ombugadu, in the recently concluded governorship election petitions tribunal.

During a press briefing at the APC’s headquarters in Lafia, the state capital, the state APC chairman, Aliyu Bello, urged PDP members to focus on promoting ideas that would contribute to the state’s development rather than using provocative and divisive comments that could create discord among residents.

Bello emphasized that Nasarawa State is known for its peaceful coexistence, and its citizens are committed to pursuing peace regardless of their cultural backgrounds, languages, and religions. He expressed concern about the PDP’s inability to control its supporters, who, he said, had resorted to making inflammatory statements and engaging in aggressive political behavior.

Bello stated, “The opposition (PDP) has failed to control their supporters who have turned into political extremists and fundamentalists chanting war songs, attacking personalities, and profiling individuals with different political views, all in their desperation to gain access to power.”

He continued, “This, from all shades of evaluation, is opposition taken too far. It is completely alien to our political culture, indecorous, and unacceptable for a political party to continue to fan the embers of disunity in the state.”

Bello also expressed confidence that the state governor, Abdullahi Sule, would emerge victorious in the Appeal Court. He called on APC supporters to remain united and uphold the existing peace in the state.

He remarked, “We have since moved on, taking solace in the fact that the Appeal court shall review and reverse the judgment in favor of our party on the merit of facts and law.”
