Nasarawa PDP Urges Supreme Court Review Following Appeal Court’s Judgment

The Nasarawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Supreme Court to carefully review the recent judgment of the Court of Appeal, which affirmed Governor Abdullahi Sule as the winner of the 2023 governorship election in the state. The PDP had initially won at the state election petitions tribunal, which declared David Ombugadu as the winner. However, the appellate court reversed this decision, affirming Sule’s victory.

During a peaceful protest in Lafia, the state capital, the PDP women leader in the state, Stella Oboshi, expressed dissatisfaction with the judgment, urging the Supreme Court to thoroughly examine it to uphold democratic principles. She raised concerns about irregularities in the election, citing instances where the total number of accredited voters did not align with the votes awarded to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Oboshi emphasized the responsibility of the judiciary to uphold justice, fairness, and merit, stating, “In this particular case, the lack of a thorough investigation into the glaring irregularities is an affront to these principles. It undermines the trust of the people in our justice system.”

Additionally, she condemned the brutalization of some women supporters during a peaceful protest on Monday, urging security agencies to refrain from harassing party members and supporters. Oboshi stressed that the intention behind the peaceful protests was to seek justice and not to cause trouble in the state.
