National Assembly Organizes Workshop to Emphasize Legislative Compliance Significance

The National Assembly is taking the initiative to organize a training workshop for the heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government. The workshop, scheduled for November 7 and 8, is aimed at highlighting the importance of legislative compliance and underscoring the risks associated with non-compliance with resolutions duly passed by the federal parliament.

The workshop, themed “The imperative of legislative compliance in deepening democracy and enhancing good governance,” is designed to address the growing concern surrounding the failure of MDAs to adhere to resolutions passed by the Nigerian Senate and the House of Representatives. Alhaji Mohammed Aminu, the Managing Partner of GMCL (Green Mount Consulting Limited), expressed the need for MDAs to engage in a constructive dialogue to align government actions with legislative input.

Aminu stated, “The imperative of legislative compliance cannot be overstated, as it is fundamental to the democratic process and the realization of good governance.”

The two-day event will see the participation of notable figures, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation Lateef Fagbeni, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari, among others.

The workshop will cover a range of topics, including the legal framework governing legislative compliance, the roles and responsibilities of various government entities, and case studies showcasing successful compliance initiatives. Through panel discussions, expert presentations, and interactive sessions, participants are expected to gain a deeper understanding of the vital role that legislative compliance plays in strengthening democracy and promoting good governance in Nigeria. The event aims to encourage better alignment between government actions and parliamentary decisions, ultimately benefiting the democratic process and governance in the country.
