Six impostors who were using the Nigerian Navy’s personnel as a front to commit fraud have been apprehended by the navy.
On Friday, Commodore Kolawole Oguntuga, Commander of NNS BEECROFT, reported that the patrol team had captured the suspects during a raid in the Lagos State neighborhood of Ajah.
According to him, “the raid led to the capture of impostors who engage in illicit operations including extortion and intimidation of citizens, among other terrible deeds, while posing as members of the Navy.
He added that the imposters’ false identification cards from the Nigerian Navy, two Toyota Hilux cars, and other relevant documents had been seized.
“The suspects, the impound vehicles bearing the inscription ‘SAIL NAVY’, and other exhibits had been handed over to the appropriate agency for further investigation and prosecution,” Oguntuga stated.
In order to protect the public from potential and fraudulent actions, he advised members of the public to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity to the proper authorities.
He added that on Thursday, while conducting a normal patrol of the maritime area, NNS BEECROFT detained eight stowaways on board a ship.
The stowaways were detained by NNS BEECROFT’s patrol team within the ship’s rudder compartment, he continued, and they were then turned over to the proper authorities.
