NDIJ Rejects VP Role, Backs Jonathan for 2027 Presidency

The Niger Delta Integrity and Justice (NDIJ) group has declared its intention to seek the presidency, not just the vice presidency, in Nigeria’s 2027 elections. This announcement came in response to suggestions that Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri be chosen as the vice-presidential candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) alongside Atiku Abubakar.

In a statement by Secretary George Miriki, NDIJ emphasized its preference for former President Goodluck Jonathan to lead the country instead of Diri as vice president. The group stated that while it recognizes Diri’s potential, its primary goal is to ensure that the Niger Delta completes an eight-year presidential term.

NDIJ highlighted Jonathan’s enduring popularity and global appeal, expressing confidence in his ability to secure the presidency. They stressed their commitment to not being shortchanged and to seeing Jonathan finish what he started, rather than settling for a vice-presidential position for the region.
