NDLEA arrests pregnant woman, 3 others; seize 7.6 tonnes of illicit drugs

During the week, 24 suspected drug traffickers and dealers were apprehended by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency operatives (NDLEA) during major interdiction operations. Among them were a 42-year-old male, a mother of three children, and a 6-month-pregnant woman.


During the raids, the NDLEA also found over 7,609 kg of various illegal narcotics in eight states.
The agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, claimed that thousands of opioid pills, hidden inside pills, were being sent to the terrorists’ and insurgents’ encampment in Borno state’s Banki area.

“The majority of the seizures occurred in Nasarawa state when, on Sunday, February 4, NDLEA agents acting on reliable information stopped a truck bearing the license plate Lagos JJJ 64 YC that was transporting 367 jumbo bags of cannabis sativa, totaling 4,037 kilograms, from Akure, Ondo State, to the Shabu area of Lafia, the state capital.”Three individuals have been taken into custody in relation to the seizure: Shuaibu Yahaya Liman, 35; Monday Audu, 33; and Linus Samuel, 42.

On Monday, February 5th, the following day, agents in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, apprehended Jibrin Shuaibu, 23, and Prosper Innih, 17, along with 169 bags and 80 blocks of compressed cannabis sativa weighing 1,961.5 kg, which were hidden in a truck bearing the license plate Ogun WDE 557 XC.

The truck was stopped and searched as it traveled from Uzeba to Dei-Dei, Federal Capital Territory, along the Abaji-Abuja highway.

“A suspect, Abdulhameed Dauda, 27, was arrested in another operation by NDLEA operatives in Abuja on Tuesday, February 6th, with 89kg of the same psychoactive substance loaded into his truck in Owo, Ondo state to be delivered at Gwagwalada in FCT.”The same material was being transported by Hassan Ade, a 30-year-old driver, who was stopped by authorities on the same day when he was carrying 696.5 kg of it from Idoani, Ondo state, to Gwagwalada and Dei-Dei in the Federal Capital Territory.
