The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has launched a manhunt for a notorious drug dealer, Sowunmi Kayode, who is on the run after allegedly crushing an NDLEA officer with his luxury car in a bid to escape arrest. The incident occurred when NDLEA officers were conducting a search of Kayode’s residence in Lekki, Lagos.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the agency had received credible intelligence that Kayode was involved in illicit drug dealing. When the officers entered his compound, Kayode was not present, but he returned while the search was ongoing. In an attempt to escape, he drove his car in reverse, knocked down an NDLEA officer, and crashed through his gate and a neighbor’s wall before fleeing on foot. The search of his apartment led to the discovery of 10.5 kilograms of drugs.
The injured NDLEA officer suffered multiple injuries and compound fractures in both legs, and he is currently receiving medical treatment in the hospital.
In response to the incident, the Chairman of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), ordered the deployment of operational assets to locate and apprehend the wanted suspect. He also ensured that the injured officer receives appropriate medical care for his recovery.
