NDLEA intercepts 14.5 tons of ‘Ghanaian Loud’

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, or NDLEA, announced on Sunday that its agents had seized substantial amounts of Ghanaian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis sativa that was being trafficked into Lagos from Ghana. The consignments were placed into two trucks and a J5 bus, totaling 14,524.8 kg.

The three vehicles carrying the large bags of psychoactive material were tracked down and stopped in the early hours of Sunday, January 28, 2024, in the Ojuelegba neighborhood of Lagos, according to the NDLEA.

According to the agency, two of the drivers abandoned their cars while attempting to block the vehicles, while Nasiru Ojomu, 66, who is associated with the wanted drug lord Suleiman Jimoh (alias Olowo Idi Ogede, also known as Temo), based in Akala, was taken into custody.
The NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, made this announcement in a statement on Sunday.

In the previous three years, Babafemi said, NDLEA agents have intercepted multiple shipments of the same psychoactive narcotic valued at billions of naira, all of which are connected to Temo. The wanted drug baron has now fled into hiding, but the Agency is still actively searching for him.

He added that three suspects had been taken into custody by NDLEA agents who were conducting a routine patrol outside a warehouse on Church Street, Idumota, Lagos, that had been blocked off due to an ongoing investigation.

He claims that the following three suspects broke into the store: Joseph Joshua, Muhammad Adamu, and Balarabe Musa. They then put 546,700 pills of tramadol and other narcotics into an unregistered Suzuki minibus and a waiting yellow bus with the number BDG 447 XD.
