NDLEA raids illegal drugs party in Osun, arrests the organizers

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency claimed its agents raided a bar in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, where a night party organized for illegal substance misuse was scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 25, and detained some of the organizers who were found with drug exhibits.

The anti-narcotics agency stated that the raid was carried out in response to credible intelligence that some individuals were planning to host a night party dubbed “Unholy Alliance… for Stoners and Drunkards,” where various forms of illicit substances would be sold and used by attendees.

Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA’s spokesperson, announced this in a statement on Sunday.

“Soon after the organisers began to gather at Berrymist Lounge in Osogbo’s Ofatedo area to start the party, NDLEA operatives swooped on them, arrested them, and recovered illicit substances of abuse and drug paraphernalia from them,” Babafemi stated.

“Among those detained are Ikotu Omolayo, 25, Fola Olabode, 30, and Akorede Adunni Ajibola, 22.” The Lounge’s management has also been invited for further inquiry. This follows an earlier raid on Thursday, November 23, at Area 5 forest reserve in Ile-Ife, during which operators recovered 156kgs of cannabis sativa.”

Meanwhile, operatives of the agency in Ogun State arrested two suspects, Adamu Ibrahim and Nura Sani, on Friday, November 24, at Ileke trailer garage, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, where 859 kilograms of cannabis sativa were concealed among bags of sugar in a truck for transport to Mokwa, Niger state.
The cargo was loaded in Ogbese, Ondo State, then buried behind bags of cement in a truck before being trans-loaded into another trailer carrying sugar in Ogun State, according to the agency.

In Edo State, operatives assaulted a warehouse at Obi Camp in Owan West LGA, recovering 338kgs of cannabis hidden in sacks of charcoal, while NDLEA detectives collected 235kgs of the same psychoactive narcotic on Saturday, November 25 in another operation in Ikhin woodland, Owan East LGA.

Onah Kenneth Ikechukwu, 32, was detained on Wednesday, November 22 in Jattu, Etsako West LGA, with 11,690 tramadol capsules, 295 bottles of codeine syrup, and varied quantities of Molly, Cannabis, and Methamphetamine.

A similar raid in Lagos on Wednesday, November 22, at Enu Owa Street, Lagos Island, resulted in the confiscation of 40,500 ampoules of pentazocine injection and 440,000 tramadol pills from a store owned by a suspect, Ebuka Amechi, who is still at large.

“Afamefuna Ibekwe, 37, and Sunday Onweh, 41, were arrested at Nkpor, Akuzor, and Ose-Ogbaijo, Onitsha, with 135,600 tramadol capsules and 950 grams of cannabis, respectively,” Babafemi stated.

Meanwhile, 37,360 pills of various opioids and 250 bottles of codeine syrup en route to Abuja were recovered from Muhammed Khamis, 22, on Thursday, November 23, along the Okene- Lokoja-Abuja Expressway, while operatives in Ekiti State seized a total of 288kgs of cannabis on Saturday, November 25 at Odo-Owa forest in Ijero LGA. Also recovered were around 116kgs of the same psychoactive narcotic from a suspect, Chinagoram Obaru, 24, who was apprehended at Iju woodland on Thursday, November 23.
