Tragic news follows the heart-wrenching incident in Anambra State, as the newborn baby who was rescued from a pit toilet three days after being abandoned has sadly passed away. The child’s mother, Nwaedoka Chidimma, reportedly dumped the baby in the pit toilet immediately after giving birth while she was working on a farm in the Otuocha community of Anambra East Local Government Area.
Residents of the area heard the baby’s cries and alerted the authorities, leading to a rescue operation that successfully retrieved the infant from the pit toilet. Despite the rescue efforts and medical attention received at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital in Awka, the baby’s life could not be saved.
The incident garnered attention and empathy from various quarters, including the state’s Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare and the governor’s wife, Nonye Soludo. The inhumane act of abandoning the newborn was widely condemned, and efforts were made to provide the necessary medical care.
This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of promoting empathy, support, and awareness for maternal and child health issues, as well as the need for a safety net to prevent such tragedies in the future.
