The Nigerian Embassy in Niger Republic has debunked a viral report suggesting that its embassy was set ablaze by furious protesters in Niamey, Niger.
According to a statement signed by Liti Auwalu, representing the Nigerian Ambassador to Niger, and released on Saturday, the statement clarified that although protesters attempted to breach the embassy, the Nigerien military and police effectively managed the situation, confirming the embassy’s secure status.
The statement emphasized, “We’ve become aware of misleading videos circulating on social media, depicting the Chancery Building in Niamey being set on fire by protesters. The Embassy wants to assure the public that despite protesters’ attempts to access the Embassy on July 30, 2023, the Nigerien Military and Police Authorities swiftly handled the situation. Presently, the Embassy is under robust protection by the Nigerien Military and other Security Authorities.”
“We reiterate that these videos are baseless and therefore urge the general public to dismiss such false information.”
