The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) has released the names and photos of some of the recovered bodies of victims of the boat accident that occurred on Monday morning. NSEMA spokesman, Hussaine Ibrahim, provided the information and said that one of the victims, Murna Ezekiel, was from Kebbi State, while Bilyaminu Kontagora, Dauda Alhassan Kasabu, and Iliya Kpchra Busuru were all from Niger State.
Ibrahim also disclosed that two more bodies were recovered from the river on Wednesday morning, and their names would be made available as soon as details were obtained. The boat accident happened when a boat carrying passengers from Kasabu village in Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State to Yauri, Kebbi State, capsized due to heavy rains and wind.
Search and rescue operations have been ongoing since the incident, with local divers and boat owners working under the supervision of the agency’s desk officer in Agwara. However, the continuous rains and strong wind have disrupted their efforts. The agency attributed the cause of the incident to water hyacinth and strong waves.
“I want to inform you that two more bodies have been recovered this morning, and as soon as we get the details, I will let you know,” said Ibrahim.
