In the most recent FIFA Men’s Rankings for October, Nigeria has maintained its 40th position, despite securing a victory and a draw in their latest international friendly matches during the recent break. The Super Eagles, with a total of 1490.48 points, gained 1.62 points in the month under review but couldn’t climb the rankings ladder.
In their two recent friendly encounters, Nigeria played a 2-2 draw with Saudi Arabia in the first match and secured a 3-2 victory against Mozambique in the second. Nevertheless, these results had a limited impact on their global ranking.
The drop in Nigeria’s ranking earlier in April, from 35th to 40th in Africa, was attributed to their absence in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The Super Eagles had briefly held the 39th position in the rankings in June and July but reverted to 40th in the September rankings.
On the African continent, Nigeria maintains its sixth position.
Morocco Holds Strong as Africa’s Top Nation, 13th Globally
Meanwhile, Morocco continues to lead the way as Africa’s top-ranked nation, securing the 13th position in the global rankings. Senegal retains its 20th place globally while maintaining the second position in Africa.
Tunisia, the sole African country among the top six on the continent to move up the global rankings last month, experienced a slight setback. They slipped from 29th to 32nd in the world rankings in the latest update by FIFA.
Algeria, in 33rd place, and Egypt, in 35th place, complete the top five in Africa.
