Nigeria Implements Measures for Passengers from China

The Federal Government has announced enhanced surveillance for passengers arriving from China following a surge in cases of the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), a respiratory virus currently affecting China. The virus has overwhelmed hospitals and raised public concerns, particularly in northern provinces.

Chinese authorities report a significant rise in infections, mainly among children under 14, prompting emergency measures such as mask mandates and social distancing. Neighboring regions, including Taiwan and Hong Kong, are closely monitoring the situation.

Nigeria’s health authorities are stepping up preventive actions. John Oladejo of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control stated that measures like quarantine and close monitoring of incoming travelers from China will be activated to curb any potential spread of the virus.
