The Nigeria Police have transferred 26 illegal aliens apprehended near Auchi last week to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) for further investigation. The Edo State Police Command’s spokesperson, Superintendent Chidi Nwabuzor, revealed on Friday in Benin that the foreigners were handed over to the Edo State Command of NIS on Monday, November 13, 2023.
According to Nwabuzor, the aliens, consisting of 16 males and eight females from Cameroon, as well as a male and a female from Burkina Faso, were arrested at Ayua-Uzaire, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, on November 9, 2023. During questioning, it was discovered that they struggled to communicate effectively in English, only being able to identify their countries of origin.
The Nigerian accomplice, who claimed to have resided and worked in Cameroon for several years, confessed to bringing the foreigners into Nigeria through the Cameroon border for excavation work in the small Edo town.
While the spokesperson for NIS in Edo, Mr. Ki Ake, is yet to comment on the matter, sources indicate that the 26 migrants are being held in a special facility pending thorough investigations. The Comptroller of Immigration in Edo has reportedly directed the screening, profiling, and documentation of the illegal migrants following credible intelligence received by the Divisional Police Headquarters in Jattu.
