Nigeria’s federal government has introduced a $56 million Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to enhance the country’s national power grid. Funded by the World Bank, this advanced technology aims to minimize power grid failures and improve electricity supply reliability across the nation.
Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, highlighted that the SCADA system will enable centralized monitoring of the electricity network, allowing for quick responses to outages, better load management, and optimized system performance. The technology offers real-time monitoring, automated data collection, fault detection, and remote operations.
The project, which involves installing 2,723 kilometers of optical ground wire along transmission lines, is 69% complete and is set to be fully operational by mid-next year.
