The Rachakonda cybercrime team in India has arrested two Nigerian nationals for engaging in fraudulent activities by posing as gift or package delivery agents. Omenonye Sylvester and Alimeke Endurance Chukwuka, who entered India on student visas, were apprehended by the Cybercrime Police at their rented residence in Delhi’s Tilaknagar.
Investigations revealed that the accused had separately arrived from Nigeria on student visas with the intent to carry out online scams. The duo created fake online personas, impersonating European citizens, and established connections with victims through platforms like Instagram. They deceived a person named Divya, using the alias ‘Alex Williams,’ promising gifts and packages, eventually scamming her of Rs 3,63,000.
After Divya filed a complaint with the Cybercrime Police on August 15, they acted swiftly, tracing technical evidence from her mobile device and the suspects’ server. The police team from Rachakonda traveled to Delhi, where they apprehended the suspects.
The operation yielded results as two Wi-Fi routers, six mobile phones, fake IDs used for creating social media profiles to lure victims, and Rs. 1.78 lakh were seized by the police.
